Family photography is one of my favourite things to shoot as I enjoy capturing children candidly playing and interacting with family and seeing their personalities shine through. As mum to two beautiful little girls I love documenting their lives as they grow. Taking natural photos to remember the smiles, giggles and silly faces.  Being able to do this for others so that they have these beautiful images of their children for years to come is a real joy.

When I take pictures, it’s so important to me to make people feel at ease. At weddings, I particularly love taking pictures that were not posed for as there’s something really special about capturing the atmosphere and emotion when nobody knew a photo was being taken in that moment. I also find it satisfying to capture the peace and tranquillity of landscape photography, taking hours to wait for the light to fall perfectly.

My Gabriel’s project, which I shot as part of my BA Hons Photography degree at Portsmouth University in 2009, remains a personal creative venture I’m most proud of. Here, I captured the nine empty shops along St Peter Port’s Fountain Street after the iconic brand finally closed, following 61 years of trading. The ghostly buildings were fascinating and for those looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, the images can be viewed here.

Ever since completing my degree, I have always worked in the creative industry, including working for other professional photographers. Patois Photography was born in 2015 and this business has grown year on year. In addition, I also own hoot! hootcreations.co.uk – a personalised print business in partnership with my mum, Sue Henry.
